Halifax Just Swore In Its First Black Chief of Police
The Halifax Regional Police just swore in Don Maclean as its first permanent Black Chief of Police.
A lifelong resident of Halifax, Maclean attended the University of King’s College and has been with the police force for 31 years. He was previously the Acting Chief of Police during the nationwide search for a new leader.
According to The Canadian Press, Maclean’s priorities are to improve community safety and police wellness. He also acknowledges that public trust is an “invaluable commodity,” and that the police force must stay responsive to the evolving needs of residents.
Best of luck to the new chief.
